“There’s more to life than anger and pain” according to Mark Anthony K’s lyrics in the leadoff song from Projekt Gemineye’s album “What’s On Your Mind”. However, don’t expect an album of sunshine and rainbows. Mastermind K doesn’t pretend to be Jon Anderson. What he has consistently given the listener is biting lyrics, slashing guitars and chest beating drums.

K has also continued to refine his craft. “Searching For The Light” shows off K’s melodic gifts, with his Hammond Organ touches, effective harmonies, and his melodic guitar sections. The song is an effective contrast to the prior song, “ The Moment”. Projekt Gemineye can make serious subject matters catchy and engaging.

“The Moment” does give that glimmer of hope while surrounding it with an arsenal of slashing guitars, pounding bass ( thanks to special guest bassist. David Donley)  and a double bass drumming frenzy. The song is an urgent head banging call to action.

“The Little Chair” continues the lyrical theme. There is a touch of renewal and dare I say optimism.

“Now that my doubts are erased.

Nothing will stand in my way.

Now that the clouds have all cleared,

My future in nothing to fear”…

K even throws in a tasty Geoff Downes like synth solo before bringing the song to a conclusion.

“World On Edge” starts with a bold musical statement made by the drums, before bringing us back to our post Covid-19 socio-economic reality. The penultimate song of the album does provide a healthy dose of chunky guitars and 80’s era synths which are a fine accompaniment to the lyrics. If you were hoping for a moment of hope and optimism however this is not it.

The album closer, “The Wondering Mind” is an upbeat tour deforce. Mark Anthony K’s production and arranging prowess shines her and synths, guitars, bass, and drum build and swirling tapestry of sonic power. K’s guitar leads are powerful yet clean and are uplifting. The song has an epic feel however it’s under 5 minutes and is all instrumental. What a driving initial section the song would make to an epic. However, you must applaud Projekt Gemineye’s vision in giving the listener just enough to whet the musical appetite and leave them wanting more.
