Short Cuts: “The Lost Generation” by Projekt Gemineye (2024)

Projekt Gemineye is never easy listening. The brainchild of conceptionalist and multi-instrumentalist Mark Anthony K is always compelling. The single “Lost Generation” from the forthcoming album Canada—Stories and Legends follows this trend. The album, out on October 31, 2024, is a look into our neighbors from the north.

“Lost Generation” delves into an era many are unfamiliar with. K tells the story of the forced removal of Indigenous children and their tragic plight.

As always in Projekt Gemineye’s efforts, K combines melodic guitar hooks, clear, forceful vocals, and pulsating metal/prog rhythms to tell a chilling story. Additionally, K continues to further his keyboard game with Geoff Downes-like keyboard passages, and Kerry Livgren-like guitar runs. The result is an effective tease for ‘Canada – Stories and Legends.’ “The Lost Generation at under 6 minutes is a fine stand-alone track, but knowing it’s part of a greater thematic endeavor, I can’t help but be on the edge of my seat for the full power of the album, ‘‘Canada – Stories and Legends’. “The Lost Generation” is available now via bandcamp.com
