Didn’t multi-instrumentalist Fernando Perdomo give us 120 wonderful Prog-Rock songs in 2025? His “Waves’ series, which culminated with the recently released ‘The Best of Waves’ not only demonstrated Perdomo’s prowess as a composer but also his skill as an arranger and player. 

‘Clouds’ continues the ‘Waves’ formula yet is an evocative journey through atmospheric soundscapes and melodic explorations.

The first 10 songs were released on January 1, 2026. This album transports listeners through a celestial landscape, marrying introspective songwriting with lush instrumentation.

Starting with the dreamy opener, “Clouds All Around Us”, Perdomo sets a contemplative tone, inviting us into a space where textures and mood define the experience. Perdomo handles all the instruments as well as production and engineering. Long-time collaborator Zach Ziskin, who works his usual magic on these airy tracks, completed mastering. Upon first listen, I’m struck by the plethora of guitar textures Perdomo employs. The lack of liner notes on the CD version does not help in uncovering Perdomo’s secrets. It does inspire deeper listening. 

“Astrolab” showcases intricate arrangements and layered sonic textures, emphasizing an expansive sense of exploration. Synth touches combine with Fender Rhodes textures and outerworldly guitar. Astrolab is dark and forboding. 

“Beyond The Blue,” with its myriad guitar parts, is deeply calming, almost meditative. It’s like staring into the endless blue sky, feeling serene and wide open.

“Moving Through The Sky” and “Heaven” deepen the celestial theme, culminating in the reflective conclusion of “Oneness,” which feels like a cascading spiritual summation. It’s clear, and echoey guitars and twinkling keyboards also seem like a perfect summation of the first Clouds album. 

Overall, “Clouds” balances ambient beauty with melodic richness, making for a compelling listen that encourages introspection and wonder. Perdomo’s craftsmanship in blending atmospheric layers with accessible melodies creates a musical experience that’s both immersive and emotionally resonant.
